After Watermark’s work with the AIDT Center at ThyssenKrupp, Watermark was again selected to provide design services for the construction of a 77,100 square foot administrative building for the steel giant at the Calvert, Alabama campus. Watermark’s responsibilities included survey, geotechnical, civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture and interior design, landscape design, furniture selections and mechanical and electrical designs. With the exception of landscape, mechanical and electrical, all services were provided directly by a Watermark/Thompson Engineering team.
ThyssenKrupp requested a compressed design and documentation schedule of approximately six months to facilitate quick commencement of construction. The project was designed in multiple packages and bid out to various subcontractors, and a ‘fast-track’ type delivery system was implemented. Other phases such as foundations and structural steel were all phased to compress construction as much as possible. ThyssenKrupp’s staff was at work in the building just 18 months after a contract was signed.
